I must admit, I haven't felt the spirit of patriotism too much lately--not even on the Fourth of July! But that changed today, when I watched a short historical video about the early Mormons in Kirtland, Ohio in the early 1830's. And then I watched the Music and the Spoken Word with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. This performance was a tribute to our Freedom and the Declaration of Independence. This was very moving!
The question I asked myself was this: What am I willing to sacrifice for that which I believe in?
When you understand what it is that you truly believe in, then you begin to understand what it may take to sacrifice for it. The Lord has asked us to go the second mile. When we are willing to go the second mile is when we will find the blessings associated with that journey. Right now we are benefiting from the journey of others ie, early pioneers, soldiers who sacrificed for our freedoms. We live in a now society, where everything is supposed to be quick and easy, no waiting, get rich quick, etc, etc.
Today I reflect on the freedom to take my own journey, and make sacrifices if need be for that which I believe in, my family, my health, my God and religion, my friends and associates, my right to work and make a difference in society.
May God Bless America and may we understand that our freedom comes with a price of sacrifice that others paid and that we must pay for to keep.
